Bring your own books
An iOS app for .m4b audiobooks with text search powered by WhisperKit

I’ve been juggling between reading EPUBs and listening to .m4b audiobooks for years, but the lack of synchronization between the two formats has always been a pain. If I’m reading a book and want to hear a specific section, or vice versa, there’s no easy way to jump between them. It’s frustrating to have to guess where a quote is in an audiobook or to lose my place when switching formats.
That’s why I built BYOB, a simple iOS app that uses WhisperKit to transcribe .m4b files directly on your device. Now you can search for any text in your audiobook and jump straight to that point—no more guessing where a quote is. The best part? All processing happens locally, so your audiobooks stay private. No internet connection required.
Load any .m4b file from your Files app, and WhisperKit processes the audio on-device (no cloud needed). Search for keywords and jump to the exact timestamp. It’s still very much a work in progress, but I’m using it daily and loving it.
