The zine era
New year, new design. This time I went for a collage-zine look.
If you’ve been here before, you might notice things look a little different. I’ve redesigned the site again. I know, I know.
The GeoCities theme was fun for a while, but the novelty wore off. I wanted something that felt a bit more like me — less retro gimmick, more personality. So I landed on this collage-zine aesthetic. Think cut-and-paste, things taped to a wall, slightly off-kilter. Like a zine you’d pick up at a record store.
The big changes:
- Typography: Swapped out the pixel fonts for Syne (headings), Newsreader (body), and Space Mono (code). Much easier to read and still has some character.
- Color palette: Ditched the neon gradients for a warm paper background with teal, blue, orange, and green accents. It feels like a corkboard instead of a CRT.
- Layout: The homepage uses a collage-style grid now where posts are slightly rotated and overlapping, like clippings pinned to a board.
- Little details: Tape effects on the featured post and tagline, sticker-style nav tabs that tilt when you hover, and a subtle paper texture in the background.
The whole thing still runs on Eleventy, still uses Nunjucks templates, still deploys the same way. Just a fresh coat of paint. I’m happy with where it ended up.
