October Review
Some things I've been into this past month
October is here and the heat finally broke. Here are some things I was into this past month.
Books
-
Steve Jobs in Exile by Geoffrey Cain – Everyone knows the story of Jobs at the top. I was more curious about the stretch in between, when he was out of the spotlight and figuring things out. I remember reading Wired during the NeXT years and being so excited by the design language. It’s a good reminder that the polished version of a career usually leaves out the messy middle.
-
The Gate of the Feral Gods (Dungeon Crawler Carl #4) by Matt Dinniman – My least favorite of the series so far. Too tedious, too much boring mythology to keep up with. I might read the next book, I might not.
Podcasts
- Designed in California by Jason Snell and Myke Hurley – An Apple history podcast from Relay. This is where I heard about Steve Jobs in Exile. The first series on the search for the next MacOS with John Siracusa was great. I’m looking forward to this next series on the iPod. I think I’ll store it up and listen all at once. I love hearing the stories behind the products I use every day.
Out and About
We went to the Atlanta Falcons vs. San Francisco 49ers game. The game was fun, but the halftime show was the real surprise: Big Boi from Outkast and Patrick “Sleepy” Brown performed. The '90s are back in style with the kids, and I’m now in the demographic where the music of my teenage years is everywhere. It showed. I had no idea when I picked this game that it would coincide with the launch of the Outkast x Falcons clothing line. Oh, and the Dirty Birds won!
